SCITUATE, Mass. — The town of Scituate plans to lease three new buses this year for Scituate Public Schools instead of buying one new bus, according to a story on boston.com.

The plan is an effort to accommodate competing costs in the district’s budget and supplement an aging fleet. Paul Donlan, director of business and finance for Scituate Public Schools, told the news outlet that the buses will replace three 11- to 13-year-old buses in the fleet. The town will lease the buses for approximately $11,200 each per year for a three-year lease. It is responsible for replacing the tires and filters. The leasing company will handle all other general maintenance.

The benefit is that, even though leasing the buses will cost approximately the same over the long term as owning and maintaining buses, the leased buses will be traded out every three years, so the fleet won't age, according to the story.
