Collins Bus Corp. has been awarded a $26 million contract to provide 400 paratransit buses for New York City Transit.
Collins, which is a subsidiary of specialty vehicle supplier Rev Group, is primarily known in the pupil transportation industry for building Type A school buses, but the Kansas-based manufacturer also offers a new commercial bus product.
New York City Transit is a new customer for Collins, and the contract represents the single largest commercial order in the history of the company. The bid for the contract opened in fall 2016, and it was awarded to Collins last month.
“We are incredibly excited to be working with the New York City Transit,” said Matt Scheuler, general manager of Collins. “It is a privilege to provide Collins buses to such a storied organization, and it’s a perfect representation of our commitment to accessibility for passengers of all abilities.”
The buses will be built to New York City Transit’s custom specifications on a Ford F-350 chassis. They will feature a flexible 20-foot length, 138-inch wheelbase, single-rear-wheel design, and wheelchair lift.
