Industry veteran Dick Fischer, who spearheaded the creation of National School Bus Safety Week years ago, provided in a recent edition of his e-mail newsletter details from the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) on the dates of the event this year.

Fischer had informed NAPT Executive Director Mike Martin that there was some confusion in regard to the dates of 2012 National School Bus Safety Week.

In response, Martin said that the dates are Oct. 22 through Oct. 26. The theme this year is “I See the Driver. The Driver Sees Me!”

School Bus Safety Week is a time for pupil transportation operations around the country to promote the yellow school bus as the safest and best way to connect students with their schools.

Since the late 1970s, it has been co-sponsored by NAPT, the National School Transportation Association and the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services.

The organizations recently partnered with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to create a variety of educational resources — including infographics — that can be used to promote school bus safety in communities that operations serve.
