SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The state Department of Education (DOE) has canceled its two-day Transporting Children with Special Needs Conference, which was scheduled to be held in Shasta, San Diego, Los Angeles and Fresno counties in July and August.
Officials from the DOE’s Office of Transportation said that the course was canceled due to lack of a state budget and travel restrictions. Those who have already paid a registration fee can contact the office at OST@cde.ca.gov or (916) 375-7100 for a refund or to select an instructor summer training program.
SBF first reported details about the conference in April.
Topics that were to have been covered included confidentiality, public relations/mandated reporting, behavior management, evacuations, wheelchair and occupant securement, and special-education policies and best practices.
California DOE cancels special-needs conference
The conference was scheduled to be held in four counties across the state in July and August. The DOE’s Office of Transportation reports that travel restrictions and the state’s lack of a budget prompted the cancellation.
