SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California Department of Education (DOE) will offer a two-day Transporting Children with Special Needs Conference in counties throughout the state in July and August.

Topics scheduled to be covered include confidentiality, public relations/mandated reporting, behavior management, evacuations, wheelchair and occupant securement, and special-education policies and best practices.

The conference dates are as follows:

• Shasta County: July 21 and 22
• San Diego County: Aug. 2 and 3
• Los Angeles County: Aug. 5 and 6
• Fresno County: Aug. 12 and 13

State-certified instructors, behind-the-wheel trainers, transportation administrators and supervisors, dispatchers and others who are directly involved in special-needs pupil transportation are invited to attend.

The conference fee is $150 per person, and the DOE encourages early registration, as space is limited. The meeting locations were to be announced shortly.

For more information, call the DOE's Office of School Transportation at (916) 375-7100.
