Bus driver faces misdemeanor child abuse charge

The charge stems from an incident in August wherein a Nebraska school district driver dropped off a 6-year-old boy more than 15 miles from his home. A construction worker who found the boy crying as he walked out of town was able to call his mother and watch him while she came to pick up the boy.

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. — Nebraska City Public Schools bus driver Thomas Mead faces a misdemeanor child abuse charge that stems from an incident in August wherein he reportedly dropped off 6-year-old Seth Foreman more than 15 miles from the boy’s home.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports that on Aug. 27, Foreman boarded the wrong bus after school. He was still on it when Mead reached his last stop — a post office in Union, Neb.

Mead told police he called his boss and was told to leave the boy in Union, according to the newspaper.

A construction worker who found Foreman crying as he walked out of town was able to call the boy’s mother and watch him while she came to pick him up. She then reported the incident to the Nebraska City police department.

Mead is tentatively scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 26, the Lincoln Journal Star reports.
