TUCSON, Ariz. — A passenger car collided head-on with an Altar Valley School District bus on Sept. 22, causing three fatalites.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) said in a statement that investigators on scene believed the passenger vehicle was heading westbound when it crossed the center line and collided with the school bus. The cause of the collision is under investigation.

The bus was traveling to a high school when the crash occurred. In its initial story on the accident, KOLD News 13 reported that there were four special-needs students on board at the time. Two children were transported to a hospital for an evaluation of minor injuries, according to the DPS.

Two males and one female riding in the passenger car were deceased on scene.

KOLD News 13 later reported that the man driving the passenger car had a traffic record that included two DUIs.
