$23M set for South Carolina school bus replacements

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina lawmakers have allocated $23.5 million to replace outdated school buses in the state, WLTX reports.
Jay Ragley with the state Department of Education told the news outlet that with the new funds, each district should get at least one bus. He also said that while $23.5 million is a good start, lawmakers need to do more to abide by the law stating that a school bus must be replaced after it turns 15 years old. He noted that they would need to set aside $34 million every year to make a major dent in replacing South Carolina’s buses.
