A job decrease in the transit and ground passenger transportation sector in April was fueled by a decline in school bus-related employment, according to a federal government analysis.
The Wall Street Journal cited that finding from a detailed analysis of industry employment data by the U.S. Department of Labor.
The department’s April 2012 Employment Situation report shows that the transportation and warehousing industries lost 17,000 jobs that month, with a decline of 11,000 jobs in transit and ground passenger transportation.
Nonfarm payroll employment rose by 115,000 in April, and the unemployment rate was little changed at 8.1% (down from 8.2% in March). Despite the declines in transportation and warehousing jobs, employment increased in professional and business services, retail trade and healthcare.
