In Aptos, California, a school bus driver and his 3-year-old passenger escape injury when a Toyota Corolla driver forces the bus off the road and then intentionally backs into it, police say. The motorist leaves the scene but is arrested three days later.

District aims to cut costs in busing with hub transfers

Starting next year at Quakertown (Pa.) Community School District, private and charter school students will be transported to hub locations and will then transfer to another bus for the rest of the trip. The district superintendent calls the move "an important cost-saving measure."

Bus driver credibility weakens bus-passing fatality case

New evidence, which forced an earlier mistrial in a case about a car driver allegedly passing a stopped school bus, striking and killing Hasani Wesley, 11, led to a prosecution plea deal. At issue was whether the bus was stopped, with red lights flashing and stop arm out, when Wesley was hit, but the bus driver’s record and her supervisor conducting an improper investigation significantly weakened the case against the car driver.

Man looking for ride allegedly steals school bus

Donald L. Francis is charged with tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree, a Class C felony, after allegedly stealing a North Wood R-IV (Mo.) School District bus. Francis admits to sheriff’s deputies that he was intoxicated and looking for a ride, found a school bus with keys in it, and drove to St. Clair, which is where authorities found the bus.

Distraction, blocked view caused school bus rail crossing accident, officials say

An investigation conducted by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada into the March 26, 2013, collision in Carlyle, Saskatchewan, found that the driver was likely distracted by tasks associated with road traffic and pedestrian activity near the crossing at the time of the accident. The school bus’ frame (A-pillar) and side mirror adjacent to the door also obstructed the driver’s view and concealed the train when the driver looked for a train.

Associations asked union not to misuse school bus in campaign

The three national pupil transportation groups wrote to the Labors' International Union of North America, requesting that the union not negatively represent the yellow bus in its highway bill reauthorization campaign. But on Monday, the union launched a tour featuring a school bus that appears to have been smashed by a fallen piece of bridge.
