Trans Tech eTrans goes on N.Y. tour

The manufacturer's all-electric bus makes a stop at the Empire State Plaza in Albany on Thursday for a government VIP and media ride-along. Officials say the bus, which features an electric chassis from Smith Electric Vehicles, has a trip range of approximately 120 to 130 miles per charge and produces zero emissions.

The school bus contractor is working to transport 1 million students to weekday screenings of the documentary "Bully" as part of the “The BULLY Project: 1 Million Kids” campaign. Two executives from the company sat in on a White House screening of the film last week.

Minneapolis Public Schools will expand its transit ridership program, replacing yellow buses for eligible high school students beginning in the next school year. Officials say that various agencies are working together "to ensure that students’ riding safety is a top priority."

Bus slides off road, 21 children evacuated

A front wheel on the bus gets caught in soft mud, pulling the bus to the side. The left wheels remain over the road, while the right ones hover over an embankment. The children on board move to the uphill seats to help steady the bus until a sheriff's deputy arrives.

Ga. district to deploy stop-arm safety solution

Carroll County Schools and American Traffic Solutions partner to equip the district's buses with CrossingGuard, which mounts purpose-built cameras on the side of the school bus to capture video of the stop-arm violation and still images of the vehicle's license plate.

Authorities say that lab analysis of blood samples from dump truck driver Michael Caporale and bus driver John Tieman show no traces of alcohol or illegal drugs. In other news, the parents of the 11-year-old girl who was killed in the accident are suing the bus and trucking companies involved.
