MCLEAN, Va. — If you are or have been involved in training school bus drivers, you likely have at least one wild story to tell.

Perhaps you’ve already shared it countless times with local comrades, but now comes an opportunity to let pupil transportation professionals from across the nation know what you’ve been through.

Publisher Roseann Schwaderer has invited submissions for an upcoming book, to be titled White Knuckle Rides. Anyone with a story — whether humorous or serious — about a driver-training session that led to a nerve-racking ride could land a spot as an “additional contributor.”

The core of the book will be a collection of personal stories from three primary contributors: Kathleen Furneaux of the Pupil Transportation Safety Institute, Cheryl Wolf of the Lafayette (Ind.) School Corp. and Theresa Anderson of Jefferson County (Colo.) Public Schools.

Up to 10 more contributors will be chosen to see their name and story in print and receive a check for $75. Schwaderer said she expects stories to include information on what might have been done to turn a white-knuckle ride into a safe one.
