In a snowstorm near Aspen Park, Colo., last week, the driver of a bus with other bus drivers on board had pulled over to put on snow chains. A Colorado State Patrol trooper tells SBF that a pickup truck attempted to slow down and lost control, crashing into the bus and fatally striking John "Jack" Garland, one of the bus drivers who had gotten out to help.

Thousands of students in the Atlanta area spent Tuesday night at school or, in some cases, even on buses because of a winter storm that froze up traffic. The National Guard came to the aid of some 95 stranded school buses, delivering food and water to the students and getting the buses moving. "We had cleared them all by [Wednesday] morning, and that was a big task," Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal says.
