PHOTOS: Pupil Transporters Take on Winter 2014

ManagementPhotos 12

The season was harsh in many parts of the nation, and its impact was felt among pupil transportation operations. Here, we share photos submitted to us from folks in several states and in Canada.

Pictured is "Snow Jam" in Marietta, Ga., captured by Mario Hernandez of Marietta City Schools on Jan. 28, when a snowstorm caused traffic to freeze up in the Atlanta area. The photo was submitted by Mark Lindstrom, director of transportation.

Michigan was hit hard by snowstorms. John Legus, transportation supervisor at Grand Ledge (Mich.) Public Schools, says this photo was taken after a major storm. "There's a windshield under there somewhere," he jokes.

Areas of Canada were also hit with harsh winter weather. Linda Emery, a bus driver for Wilco Transportation in Calgary, Alberta, submitted several photos, including this one.

Magda Dimmendaal, CEO of Wisconsin's Dousman Transport Co. Inc., submitted this photo of a snowman driver made by the staff during a break from what she says has been a "brutal" winter.

Pictured are snowbanks in Sumner (Iowa) Community School District's area of service. The photo was snapped by a bus driver out on her route. She says that on the morning route and several days prior, this road had one lane of traffic and snowblowers were brought out to open up the road. The photo was submitted by Max Christensen, executive officer of school transportation at the Iowa Department of Education.

Peter Lawrence, director of transportation at Fairport (N.Y.) Central School District, says his team had to make snow piles like the one pictured because they'd run out of room in the operation's bus yard.

Doug Messer, director of transportation at Manhattan-Ogden Unified School District 383 in Manhattan, Kan., sent us this photo. He says it was taken following a 14-inch snowstorm.

"We were driving through heavy, wet snow, and I stopped to clean off the wipers and noticed my tire was art," Emery says of this photo.

Paul Fielder submitted this photo. "Will spring ever arrive in northwest Indiana?" he wonders. "I can't do anything with my wheels and tires." Fielder works for Hyles-Anderson College in Crown Point, Ind.
