New York association survey finds 385 illegal passes in 1 day

The New York Association for Pupil Transportation surveyed 1,080 school bus drivers from 18 school districts across the state on Oct. 21. The results suggest that more than 17,824 motorists passed stopped school buses statewide on that day.

New York’s RFP law for school bus contracts now permanent

Some N.Y. school bus drivers may get more pay

The City Council is planning to vote to give $42 million to school bus companies to increase the salaries of experienced drivers who were forced to take pay cuts after the former Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg awarded new bus contracts that cut hundreds of millions of dollars from a $1.1 billion school transportation budget. Some of the savings came from removing seniority protection.

Larry Eason, who has been driving for Hannibal (N.Y.) Central School District for 27 years, wins the Friends of Autism award from a county task force. One of Eason’s passengers nominated him for the award, writing that “Larry is my bus driver and he is my friend. ... He is always patient and takes great care of me.”
