School bus drivers aid in Boston evacuation

After the explosions at last week's Boston Marathon, eight school bus drivers from AA Transportation stepped up to shuttle people away from the site. Company President Ron Ernenwein commends the drivers for their actions, noting that "not one person opted to go home, complained the assignment was too hard or took a break after the 18th hour of shuttling."

Buses evacuated after student finds fake grenade

In the ongoing investigation, police say that after the student found the object on the bus, it was reportedly given to the bus driver, who evacuated the bus and notified officials. A bomb squad determines that it did not pose a threat, but students were also removed from other buses at a high school and taken into the school.

Georgia district to test bus passenger tracking system

Gordon County Schools will conduct a pilot program of StudentConnect. Company officials say that the system provides real-time notification to parents and school transportation officials when students fail to get on the school bus, as well as when they enter or exit the bus at the wrong stop.

Alabama students honored for actions during bus hijacking

Dr. Thomas Bice, Alabama’s superintendent of schools, presents proclamations to each of the students who were on their school bus when it was hijacked by gunman Jimmy Lee Dykes, who allegedly shot driver Charles Poland and then abducted one student. Bice says the students displayed safety skills that Poland taught them, and he recounts how the students loved Poland.

Eighteen-year-old Jonathan Cole Collins is released from jail on a misdemeanor marijuana charge, and he steals the bus during his walk home. Detectives confront him the next day after he’s identified in footage on the bus’ surveillance camera, and he admits the theft.
