Driver shortage expected to impact bus schedules

At Columbus (Ohio) City Schools, an effort has fallen through to contract for temporary bus drivers to cover routes while permanent drivers complete their training and earn their commercial driver’s license. Ariel Castro, the man who allegedly kidnapped and raped three Cleveland women, committed multiple violations as a school bus driver, which resulted in his firing last November. His infractions include leaving a child on a bus, making an illegal U-turn in rush hour traffic with a busload of students, and using the school bus to do his grocery shopping.

Deputies in Piketon, Ohio, say Tuesday’s accident occurred as the bus was crossing a one-lane bridge. The bus driver lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the house after the driver of a Jeep tried to cross the bridge at the same time when the bus was only halfway across.

Cleveland City Council aims to increase bus-passing penalties
