Missouri lead producer to provide $300,000 for bus retrofits

As part of an agreement with the EPA, the Doe Run Co. will offer a total of $500,000 to help Missouri districts retrofit diesel school buses and improve environmental practices in school science labs. Districts in Jefferson County, Mo., get first crack at the grants.

School bus driver stops gunman from boarding

Police in Kansas City, Mo., say that the person tried to board the school bus, but the driver denied him a ride because she didn't recognize him. As the bus drove off, the person, who witnesses say appeared to be of high school age, reportedly fired several shots at the bus but didn't hit it.

Mo. district sees cost savings from propane buses

The eight Blue Bird Propane-Powered Vision school buses have been in operation at Fort Zumwalt School District since last June. The district’s chief financial officer says the district is saving “around 18.9 cents per mile due to lower fuel costs,” and officials anticipate that the buses will save the district “approximately $18,000 this school year.”

School bus driver logs nearly 66 years behind the wheel

Carl Fisher began driving buses in Pleasant Hope, Mo., when he was 16 years old, and he will soon be 82. He retired earlier this year and reportedly holds the Guinness World Record for length of service as a school bus driver.
