Congress passes alt-fuel tax credit extensions

The fiscal deal passed by Congress this week includes provisions that benefit fleets that use alternative fuels. The bill, expected to be signed into law by President Obama, extends tax credits for such fuels as propane, compressed natural gas and biodiesel — all of which power many school buses.

The EPA has reportedly approved a diesel-to-CNG (compressed natural gas) dedicated package for the diesel International DT466 series engine. NGV Motori USA and Clean Vehicle Solutions LLC partnered to bring the conversion package to the intermediate class vehicle market.

EPA awards $30M for clean diesel projects

School buses are among the vehicles being replaced or retrofitted in the latest round of funding for the Diesel Emission Reduction Program, also known as DERA. Sioux Falls (S.D.) School District, for example, is being awarded $450,000 for replacing 18 school buses.

App provides alternative fuel station location data

The Cleaner and Greener Fuels app from Leonardo Academy is available for download free of charge from the iTunes app store, the Google Play store and the Cleaner and Greener website. It provides routes to stations on a series of interactive maps for such fuels as compressed natural gas, biodiesel, propane and electricity.

First Student purchases 86 Blue Bird propane buses

The contractor receives the buses this month, and they will be used by Portland (Ore.) Public Schools. Officials for Blue Bird and ROUSH CleanTech, which developed the fuel system for the buses, say that it is the largest single order to date for the Next Generation Propane-Powered Vision. In related news, John Roselli joins Blue Bird as director of alternative fuels.
