Two new families of Leece-Neville heavy-duty alternators have been designed to improve school bus electrical performance: the IdlePro and IdlePro Extreme high-efficiency/high-output alternators.

The alternators help extend battery life and increase vehicle uptime by enhancing engine and electrical system performance, according to the supplier. They also include Prestolite Electric’s isolated ground technology, which was created to protect engines from potentially severe electrolytic damage caused by stray voltage.

The alternators are created for Type A, C, and D school buses.

Specifications for the IdlePro alternators (AVI160 Series – high amp, dual internal fans) include  12V: 170-, 190-, 210-, 240-amp outputs; a minimum of 63% output of unit’s rated maximum output at engine idle speed; remote sense capability; and 125 Celsius, minus 40 Celsius ratings.

Specifications for the IdlePro Extreme alternators (BLP4000 Series – high amp, brushless) include 12V: 220-, 240-, 280-, 325-, 350-, 420-amp outputs; a minimum of 90% output of the unit’s rated maximum output (200-plus amps) at engine idle speed (in certain applications); remote sense capability; dual cable terminals (B+/B-) positioned laterally and axially; and 125 Celsius, minus 40 Celsius ratings.
