Check out these fascinating photos from the Snapshots department in recent issues of School Bus Fleet.

Fog provides an eerie backdrop for buses on an October morning in Highland, Michigan. Valori Baranowski, who works for the Huron Valley Schools transportation department, took the picture.

School bus personnel from Atlanta Public Schools pay tribute to one of their colleagues, John Cornelius, at his funeral in April. Cornelius drove bus 745, seen here. John Franklin, the district’s executive director of transportation, said that Cornelius “espoused only the very best qualities of humanity and professionalism while operating his bus route each day.”

North Carolina State Superintendent Dr. June Atkinson stands with Wake County school bus drivers wearing “Stop for a Life” T-shirts. Atkinson honored drivers at a Love the Bus reception in February. In this circa-1940s shot, students file onto Lower Merion School District buses at Bala Cynwyd (Pa.) Junior High. The buses (at least the first two) are Macks. Ted Goldsborough of the Lower Merion Historical Society provided the photo.

Jenna Bush Hager (left) rides a school bus with students to Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School in Dorchester, Massachusetts, in September. Hager, daughter of former President George W. Bush, surprised teachers at the school with the news that they would receive $10,000 from the Propane Education & Research Council to purchase classroom supplies. The donation recognizes Boston Public Schools’ adoption of propane school buses.

Youngsters pose with Safety Dog, the mascot for First Student. The school bus contractor teamed up with the National Safety Council for the recent Safety Dog Bus Tour, which informed kids and their parents about school bus safety.

A school bus rides a ferry across Lake Roosevelt in northeastern Washington. The lake, which is about 130 miles long, was created when the Grand Coulee Dam was built on the Columbia River in 1941. Lisa Dills, whose brother works on the ferry, took the photo.

Teresa Morris snapped this shot after a February snowstorm adorned yellow buses in white. Morris is a school bus driver for York County (Va.) School Division and a photographer (see m2photographyva.com).

Glendale (Ariz.) Elementary School District celebrates Transportation Appreciation Day in April. District officials awarded transportation employees with a certificate and a yearly school bus pin, which they can add to their uniform, hat or bus. This creative cake was also part of the festivities.

That’s an assistant superintendent at the wheel! Dr. Mark Lavner, who oversees personnel and support services at Canandaigua (N.Y.) City School District, trained and tested to get his school bus license. He’s seen here on his first run with kids on board. “We are proud of him for taking the time to do this and experience a critical aspect of a student’s daily life,” said Scott Goble, the district’s director of transportation, who submitted the photo.

This long lineup of yellow buses is at R.M. Marrs Magnet Center, a middle school in Omaha, Nebraska. The buses are operated by Student Transportation of America’s Omaha location, which transports more than 50,000 students.
