First Student wins 2 Mich. contracts

The contractor will serve Flint Community Schools in a three-year agreement, adding 45 new buses to the fleet, and Saginaw Public Schools under a five-year agreement, adding 20 new buses to the fleet. NYAPT addresses bus monitor bullying incident

Last week, video of monitor Karen Klein being verbally abused by students on the bus went viral. The New York Association for Pupil Transportation says that the students’ behavior toward Klein was offensive and pledges to work with state and local officials to enhance training to help bus drivers and monitors respond to such situations.

First Student purchases 86 Blue Bird propane buses

The contractor receives the buses this month, and they will be used by Portland (Ore.) Public Schools. Officials for Blue Bird and ROUSH CleanTech, which developed the fuel system for the buses, say that it is the largest single order to date for the Next Generation Propane-Powered Vision. In related news, John Roselli joins Blue Bird as director of alternative fuels.

Beaten school bus driver dies

Juan DelValle is taken off life support by his family after he was beaten into a coma by a driver whose car he clipped with his bus. The driver reportedly punched DelValle so hard his head slammed on the road when he got out of his bus to survey the damage.
