Iowa officials caution against falsifying bus repairs

The warnings come after the arrests of two district transportation officials who allegedly lied to the state that problems with buses in their fleets had been repaired. In September, the state Department of Education’s transportation office hired a third school bus inspector, which has enabled the department to do call-back inspections on buses with serious deficiencies.

District launches hotline to report bullying

Wentzville R-IV School District partners with SchoolReach, a school notification system, to provide a CyberBully Hotline program, an anonymous, two-way means for students, parents, guardians and others to report incidents of bullying, harassment or intimidation. The program also includes a separate hotline number just for use on district buses.

Seon Design names winners of anti-bullying coloring contest

Mayson Bac, 11, of North Thurston Public Schools’ Chinook Middle School is named the overall winner of the contest, while first-, second- and third-place winners are named in categories for students ages 5 to 7, 8 to 10, and 11 and up. Officials say the purpose behind the Bullies Aren’t Cool coloring contest was to spark a conversation about bullying between bus drivers, students, school administrators and parents.

Rhode Island lawmaker aims to expand school bus staff checks

State Rep. Anthony Giarrusso's son was among the passengers on a school bus whose monitor was arrested on child pornography charges. While the monitor had passed the state background check that Rhode Island requires, Giarrusso says he will introduce a bill to also require national background checks for school bus drivers and monitors.
