MINNEAPOLIS — Todd Monteferrario was elected president of the National School Transportation Association (NSTA) at the group’s annual meeting here on Wednesday.
He succeeds outgoing NSTA President Tim Flood.
Monteferrario has worked in the student transportation industry for more than 25 years. He currently serves as senior director of operational excellence for First Student. Before joining First Student, he was with his family-owned student transportation business, Bergen-Passaic Transport Service Inc. He has served in key management roles for both companies.
Monteferrario has been an active member of NSTA for 19 years. He has been involved in many of the association's committees, including acting as chair of the membership committee. He has also served on the NSTA board of directors for more than 15 years.
During his term as NSTA president, Monteferrario said that he plans to focus on addressing motorist awareness of student safety around school buses, and on promoting the services provided by contractors to school districts and communities.
"I am honored to serve as president for the National School Transportation Association and represent the membership," Monteferrario said. "We will continue to provide school transportation professionals with the tools and resources they need to make school buses safe, secure, affordable and efficient nationwide."
Monteferrario is a 2011 recipient of the NSTA Golden Merit Award, and he was recognized with the NSTA Distinguished Service Award in 2013 for his contributions to the pupil transportation industry.
