Special-Needs School Bus Driver Honored by State
Pam Thompson is recognized as the 2017-18 Oklahoma Special-Needs Bus Driver of the Year.
WOODWARD, Okla. — A school bus driver for special-needs students here has been honored by the state for her work, Woodward News reports.
Pam Thompson, who has been a bus driver for Woodward Public Schools for 35 years, received the 2017-18 Oklahoma Special-Needs Bus Driver of the Year award. She was nominated by the district’s special-needs director for the award, which was presented by the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
Thompson told the newspaper that she can’t believe that she won the award, she loves what she does, and that, “It’s nice to be recognized for what you do.” Thompson also credited the school bus aide she works with, telling Woodward News that they are a team.
Thompson has won the Woodward Bus Driver of the Year award for three years in a row, according to the newspaper. Steve Burdge, the school district’s transportation director, told Woodward News that he is “really proud of her” and that he commends her for driving a special-needs school bus for so many years.
