Senate committee passes school bus refurb bill
The measure would allow Georgia schools to use the same state funds for school bus repairs and refurbishments that are allocated for school bus replacement. If it is ultimately signed into law, it would become effective on July 1.
ATLANTA — The Senate Committee on Education and Youth today passed HB 936, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
The measure would allow schools to use the same state funds for school bus repairs and refurbishments that are allocated for school bus replacement.
The legislation specifies that any school bus that is refurbished will be subject to all safety and maintenance inspection requirements provided for by law. Refurbishments would have to be completed by a school bus manufacturer or by a dealer of a manufacturer.
The bill was introduced earlier this year, as SBF previously reported here, and was approved by the House on March 18. If it is ultimately signed into law, it would become effective on July 1.
