School bus aide accused of stealing money from special-needs students

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. — A school bus aide here was arrested for allegedly taking money from special-needs students between the ages of 6 and 9, News 12 reports.
Candice Milford was charged with theft after allegedly stealing money from five students, according to the news source. The money was intended for class trips. The thefts reportedly occurred while the students were aboard the school bus, News 12 reports.
Investigators told CBS2 that parents noticed in October that teachers weren’t getting the money they were sending with their children for class trips. Capt. Roy Hoppock of the Woodbridge Police Department told CBS2 that the amount of money stolen, from when police received information on the alleged theft to when they made the arrest, may be a couple hundred dollars.
Police said that Milford has been employed by the Woodbridge Township School District for three years, CBS2 reports. The thefts are a third degree crime, and if convicted, Milford probably wouldn’t serve prison time, according to CBS2.
