A new interactive map from PERC shows how many propane school buses are in operation in each state. Shown here is a propane fueling station in Texas.

A new interactive online map from the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) illustrates the status of propane school bus adoption across the U.S.

PERC said that transportation directors can use the map to see how many school bus operations in their state are currently operating propane autogas buses.

The new online resource, at propane.com/busmap, provides state-level bus data from the more than 700 school districts and contractors that operate propane school buses in 47 states. In all, more than 12,500 propane school buses are in operation in the U.S., according to PERC.

“More transportation directors are finding value with propane autogas school buses because of their lower total cost of ownership, cleaner and quieter operation, and better maintenance experience,” said Michael Taylor, PERC’s director of autogas business development. “The interactive map highlights how widespread the adoption of propane autogas school buses has become, and we think a lot of transportation directors will be surprised at how many school districts are having success with propane autogas.”

The map enables visitors to click on a state to reveal a downloadable infographic with the total number of school buses and the number of operations using propane buses within the selected state.

Also available for download are five regional fact sheets that detail cost savings, emissions reductions, and maintenance-related benefits, according to PERC. The fact sheets also highlight a handful of districts’ propane autogas school bus stories.
