CINCINNATI — Two key executives at FirstGroup America have announced their departures.

President and CEO Mike Murray will resign his post at the end of this week. A FirstGroup America spokesperson said that after 10 years with the company, Murray has decided to make a career change and pursue other opportunities.

Prior to being named president and CEO, Murray served as vice president and general counsel. He also served as president of business unit First Transit.

Another FirstGroup America executive, CFO Mark Lawton, stepped down from his position April 16. He came on board in 2007 and made “significant contributions to the company's success, particularly during the Laidlaw integration,” said Maureen Richmond, director of media relations.

FirstGroup America’s business units, which include school bus contractor First Student, will report directly to U.K.-based parent FirstGroup plc until a new structure is finalized.

“These changes do provide us with an opportunity to evaluate our company leadership structure and ensure it provides the right support for our business as we continue to grow and move forward,” Richmond said. “We are very fortunate to have three business unit presidents who will work with the plc leadership to guide the company.”
