CINCINNATI — First Student Inc. has named Scott Turney region operations manager for Ohio. Turney will direct and manage operations for multiple First Student locations throughout the region, including offices in Cincinnati, Columbus, Miami Valley, Union County, Hardin County and New Miami.
“Scott comes to First Student with a successful track record of managing large workforces in fast-paced environments,” said Roger Moore, region vice president of First Student. “His leadership experience will be crucial in helping our contract managers continue to provide safe and reliable transportation to thousands of students across the region every day.”
Most recently, Turney served as the regional field services director for DHL in Cincinnati. While there, he managed the company’s midcontinent region and annually increased the productivity of his team. Turney also worked with all levels of management to improve the region’s costs and operations, and he won numerous company awards for operational excellence, safety and outstanding customer service, according to First Student.
Turney holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with dual majors in management and marketing from the University of Dayton. He will be based out of First Student’s Cincinnati location.
Moreover, First Student has named George Gans contract manager for the company’s Columbus, Ohio, location. Gans will oversee all transportation operations, including safety, maintenance and training, for First Student’s contract with Columbus City Schools.
“George is a welcome addition to the First Student team,” Turney said. “His transportation and leadership experience, combined with his knowledge of Columbus City Schools are certain to help strengthen the relationships we have with the schools, employees and students we work with in the city.”
Prior to joining the First Student team, Gans was the general manager and compliance officer for W.C. Brunk/V.A.T., where he managed the company’s day-to-day transportation operations for Columbus City Schools. While there, he created driver procedure guidelines that emphasized safety, designed and implemented a new billing and collection system, and reduced employee turnover.
Gans holds a bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences from Ohio State University.
