WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A state conference on special-needs transportation that was slated for November has been moved to the following month.
The two-day Transporting Passengers with Special Needs conference that was scheduled for Nov. 17 and 18 will now be held Dec. 8 and 9. The event is organized by the California Department of Education’s Office of School Transportation (OST).
OST officials encouraged those interested in attending the conference to submit their applications soon, because it typically fills up quickly.
OST held editions of the conference in January and April. The event focuses on two main subject areas: when and how to transport children with special needs. A few of the specific topics covered are navigating the special-education process, restraints and seclusion, loading and unloading, proper securement of passengers and wheelchairs, and transporting medications/adaptive devices.
The cost for attending the conference is $150 per person. The event will be held at OST’s training facility in West Sacramento.
