WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California Department of Education’s (DOE) Office of School Transportation (OST) will host a conference here in July on transporting students with disabilities.
The Transporting Children with Special Needs conference will be held July 17 and 18, and it will focus on two main subjects: when to transport and how to transport children with special needs.
Topics scheduled to be covered include navigating the special-education process, bullying versus harassment, loading and unloading statutes, regulations and policies, proper student and wheelchair securement, autism spectrum disorders, and transporting medications and adaptive devices.
Transportation directors, supervisors and administrators, as well as state-certified instructors, behind-the-wheel trainers, dispatchers, bus drivers and anyone else interested in special-needs transportation is encouraged to attend the event.
Applications are available on the DOE website here under “Special Needs Training Series — 2 Day Courses.”
