CalAmp has released the next generation of its Here Comes The Bus parent app, adding new safety controls, streamlined onboarding, and expanded hardware compatibility for school transportation programs.
The company said that the updated version introduces enhanced data controls, a redesigned user interface, and support for select third-party telematics hardware, allowing districts to extend the life of existing equipment.
Enhanced Safety and Security Controls
The latest release includes a district-controlled feature that prevents bus location details from appearing on the map until the vehicle enters a defined radius. According to the company, the feature was developed in response to district feedback and provides additional control over how student location data is displayed.
The app also now supports Single Sign-On (SSO), enabling centralized authentication and password management. Districts can use SSO to streamline parent access and remove user permissions when access is no longer appropriate.
Updated Parent Experience and Hardware Support
The redesigned app simplifies onboarding and navigation, with the goal of reducing parent support requests and improving access to trip information. Optional student photo uploads allow parents to more easily identify their child’s route details.
Here Comes The Bus continues to provide real-time bus location tracking, arrival notifications, and alerts when students board or exit the bus. The app also allows parents to cancel pickups through the platform, reducing call volume to transportation offices.
“Student safety remains the foundation of every enhancement we deliver,” said Thomas Polan, acting general manager of CalAmp’s Student Safety Division. “This release reflects our continued focus on helping districts protect students while keeping parents informed and supporting daily operations.”
Here Comes The Bus is used by more than 1.7 million parents and caregivers across North America to track school bus activity.
