A new web app could help streamline school bus inspections in Indiana, Government Technology reports.
The Indiana State Police inspects about 17,000 school and activity buses each year, with those that are more than 12 years old undergoing inspection twice per year. Troopers have been using paper forms with a checklist during inspections, then manually entering the information into a database — a process that officials said is cumbersome.
A university computer class came up with an idea for an online application that digitizes the school bus inspection checklist and other related information. It runs on BlackBerry PlayBook tablets, and the troopers are now beta testing the program.
