Special-needs student survives fall from bus on freeway

The boy only sustains lacerations after falling out of the bus' rear emergency exit. District officials say freeway noise may have prevented the driver from hearing an alarm signaling that the door was open. When an attendant goes to check on the student, she sees the door is partially open and that the boy is not in the bus.

Special-needs bus driver arrested for DWI

Officers pull Elizabeth Anaya over for running a red light and find an empty bottle of rum in her jacket pocket and an open can of beer in between her legs. A blood alcohol test reveals Anaya’s alcohol level is nearly twice the legal limit. She is charged with driving while intoxicated, running a red light and possession of an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle.

Bus driver credited with saving special-needs student’s life

After noticing that Connor DiLorenzo is choking, Danny Waldrum pulls his bus over, calls 911, checks to see if the boy is breathing and administers an abdominal thrust, which dislodges a small pebble from his throat. A paramedic who responded to the incident says “it's absolutely possible” DiLorenzo could have lost his life without Waldrum's quick action.
