The girl was with her mother as they waited for a school bus to arrive at their stop in Desert Hot Springs, Calif. The dog, an intact husky mix that is about 2 years old, bit the girl in the face at least once, possibly twice.

Driver honored for saving toddler’s life

Beaumont (Calif.) Unified School District driver Jody Jermeay sees a toddler running down the sidewalk toward a car that is backing out of a driveway and pulls her bus across the driveway to block the car from pulling out. The child’s older sibling is able to move the boy out of the way just in time.

Virginia association offers scholarship in memory of Sonny Merryman

The founder of school bus dealership Sonny Merryman Inc., who passed away in December, provided hundreds of students in Virginia with scholarship assistance. The Virginia Association for Pupil Transportation offers a $2,500 scholarship that is available to seniors at public schools in Virginia who have a parent or grandparent currently or formerly employed in the public school pupil transportation field within the state.

Iowa Bill Would Require Seat Belts on New School Buses

School buses ordered for purchase on or after July 1, 2014, would have to be equipped with the belts, and drivers and passengers would be required to use them under the legislation that was recently introduced. A violation of the seat belt requirements would result in a $50 fine.
