At 79, veteran bus driver has no plans to retire

Carl Fisher began driving students to school in a 1946 Dodge panel truck when he was 16 years old. Today, he is one of Pleasant Hope (Mo.) Schools' independent contractors, driving high school students to and from classes at the community college.

Missing student found safe

Lok Marcellay, 11, had disappeared after getting off his school bus last week. Police say they found the boy two days later, and he appeared to be in good health. The incident was described as “an alleged abduction by known individuals.”

Police release images of school bus thief

The search continues for a man who stole a school bus from a district parking lot at 5 a.m. last Thursday. State troopers pursued the vehicle on the freeway, where the bus collided with two vehicles. The bus was found crashed into a tree on a surface street, but the driver had fled the scene.

Driver absenteeism contributes to district’s bus route delays

Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools’ Chief Operating Officer Fred Carr addressed the problem in a letter to the district’s families. Carr wrote that the transportation department is scheduling drivers to cover absent employees’ routes and is also hiring more substitute drivers.
