District honored for safety and performance excellence

The South Shore Regional School Board receives the Gold Nova Scotia Pupil Transportation Achievement Award for the second consecutive year. Inspectors look at such factors as driver training and accident reporting. The district also achieves the best score for the least number of defects found during the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board mechanical inspections.

A team of bus drivers from First Student's school bus yard in San Francisco will participate in AIDS/LifeCycle 10, a seven-day bike ride to raise AIDS awareness. The drivers commit to getting fit, training and raising $3,000 each.

In “School Bus CDL Pre-Trip Inspection” Indiana bus driver Greg Beaverson conducts a pre-trip inspection on a transit-style bus, beginning with the outside and then moving to the inside. He tells SBF that with both the inside and the outside, the process is broken down into several mini chapters that can be selected from the DVD menu to make it easy for the trainee to memorize the steps.
