Emergency information packet developed for special-needs bus riders

The packet, available to pupil transportation providers in Michigan, includes a Passenger Emergency Information Form template and a Transportation Information/Emergency Sheet template. The first form serves as a roster of all passengers on a bus while the second can be modified to include other important student information.

Deaf student dropped off at vacant house

After school last month, Jayman Washington boarded a bus that he does not normally take and the driver, who did not know that Washington had moved a week before, left him at his old residence where no one was home. The transportation department at the district where the driver works will now review its policies for dropping off students at its safety meetings.

Q’Straint offers new wheelchair securement module

The Q’UBE has a low-profile design and can be permanently mounted to the vehicle floor or installed on transit barriers or seat legs with full adjustability. Its features include a delayed release mechanism that gives users 15 seconds to secure the rear of the wheelchair, along with fully automatic rear retractors.

Efforts to restore cuts to school bus transportation fail

A citizen petition to reinstate transportation for students in Framingham, Mass., who live within two miles of their schools fails 89 to 40 by a ballot vote at a special town meeting. The chairwoman of a committee that opposed the petition says the town needs to focus on cutting costs.
