Spring Independent School District (ISD) in Houston receives glass cleaner and windshield washer fluid from Rain-X for the district’s fleet of 440 school buses and other vehicles. Rain-X will also make a donation to another Houston-area district, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD.

Transportation department awarded for recruitment efforts

Houston Independent School District’s transportation department receives a community service award from the Near Northwest Management District for these efforts. The department partners with this agency to recruit bus drivers who live in the area that the Near Northwest Management District serves, and it also has a recruiting team at each bus terminal that visits neighborhoods, businesses and churches to recruit drivers.

Louisiana, Texas bus drivers honored by school risk programs

Lillie Lewis of the Tensas Parish School Board receives the 2013-14 Statewide Bus Driver of the Year award from the Property Casualty Alliance of Louisiana, and Shelley Wilkenson of Midlothian (Texas) Independent School District receives the award from the alliance's Texas chapter. Awards given through this program are based on such driver attributes as leadership, attitude, perseverance, student and parent relationships, and technical skill.

6-year-old Texas girl struck by school bus, later dies

Police said they believe that Jada Craft may have been running late and was trying to catch the bus when she was struck. She later died at her home. Investigators are expected to review the bus’ video surveillance cameras to determine how the accident happened.
