Bus driver begins 42nd year behind the wheel

What started out as a joke turned into a long, fruitful career for Dorothy Skala, a bus driver for Rosebud-Lott (Texas) Independent School District. Having grown up on a farm, Skala started driving at a young age, and last spring, she was presented with the Bus Driver of the Year award from the Texas Association for Pupil Transportation.

Transportation department awarded for recruitment efforts

Houston Independent School District’s transportation department receives a community service award from the Near Northwest Management District for these efforts. The department partners with this agency to recruit bus drivers who live in the area that the Near Northwest Management District serves, and it also has a recruiting team at each bus terminal that visits neighborhoods, businesses and churches to recruit drivers.
