Minn. pupil transporters honored for service, dedication

Men charged for school bus battery thefts

Danny Kelly and Michael Kniser are charged with burglary for stealing 25 batteries from First Student buses in June. Bail for Kelly is set at $30,000, and bail for Kniser is set at $50,000.

Dozens of school bus batteries stolen in Ariz., Ill.

Thieves in Collinsville, Ill., make off with more than 35 batteries from a contractor's buses. In Peoria, Ariz., about two-dozen batteries are ripped off and buses are damaged at a school district lot.

First Student wins 2 Mich. contracts

The contractor will serve Flint Community Schools in a three-year agreement, adding 45 new buses to the fleet, and Saginaw Public Schools under a five-year agreement, adding 20 new buses to the fleet. First Student purchases 86 Blue Bird propane buses

The contractor receives the buses this month, and they will be used by Portland (Ore.) Public Schools. Officials for Blue Bird and ROUSH CleanTech, which developed the fuel system for the buses, say that it is the largest single order to date for the Next Generation Propane-Powered Vision. In related news, John Roselli joins Blue Bird as director of alternative fuels.

The company travels more than 250,385 miles between preventable collisions in fiscal year 2011-12, and the chance for injury on or around a school bus is one in 7,690,000 million miles driven.
