Bill would set inspection standards for wheelchair lifts

Under the Ohio legislation, the rules adopted and enforced by the state Department of Safety would require that each lift installed on a vehicle used for pupil transportation be inspected by a person certified by the lift’s manufacturer. The inspector would need to sign a form attesting to the lift’s compliance with the rules.

Ohio district maintains county’s EMS vehicles

Gallipolis City School District partners with Gallia County Commissioners to service the county’s five EMS vehicles and one rescue truck. Troy Johnson, the district’s transportation/safety director, tells SBF that the partnership is saving the county approximately $30 a work hour, and the technicians work in staggered shifts so that it doesn’t interfere with their school bus-related duties.

Ohio recognizes school bus drivers statewide

May 7 is School Bus Driver Appreciation Day, and Ohioans are reminded to show their support for these individuals. Officials say the state Legislature designated the first Monday in May as School Bus Driver Appreciation Day to “increase public recognition of the important function that school bus drivers serve in safely transporting children to and from school.”
