Grand Rapids conferences to cover crash results, security, KPIs

Christopher Hart, vice chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board, will address NAPT and NASDPTS members in a joint session. He is expected to discuss recent crash investigation results and recommendations. Also during the joint session, attendees will watch the film “Impact: After the Crash,” which reenacts the catastrophic 1988 bus crash in Carrollton, Ky., and shares inspirational stories of survivors.

Georgia’s Clayton County Schools deploys stop-arm cameras

The school district partners with American Traffic Solutions, equipping buses in its fleet with the CrossingGuard school bus arm safety solution. The system mounts cameras and sensors on the side of a school bus, and when the stop arm is deployed, the sensors automatically detect a vehicle illegally passing the stop arm in either direction.

Entire Blue Bird line completes Altoona testing

The school bus manufacturer’s line of Vision, All American and Micro Bird buses have been tested, and Blue Bird is reportedly the only large bus manufacturer to have its full line successfully complete the test. The test covers such criteria as maintainability, reliability, safety, structural integrity and performance.

District honors fallen firefighters with bus license plates

Prescott (Ariz.) Unified School District’s buses will feature license plates that carry the names of 19 Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew members who lost their lives while battling a wildfire in June. The district’s transportation director says she received approval from the state Department of Public Safety on the plates.

Pittsburgh Pirates support school bus safety event

A group of volunteers, including many people in the pupil transportation industry, planned and participated in the event, in which the volunteers provided tours of school buses and distributed flyers on yellow bus laws and other safety materials prior to a Pirates baseball game.
