Take a look at these fun and fascinating photos from the Snapshots department in recent issues of School Bus Fleet.

Fred Shonk, retired driver and trainer for Beech Grove (Ind.) City Schools, caught this Canada goose taking a break on the roof of his bus. Shonk joked that the bus-loving bird, which he dubbed Godfrey, could serve as an effective backup alarm.

This snapshot was aptly titled “The Director Surveys His Troops.” Scott Goble is seen observing Canandaigua (N.Y.) City School District buses lining up at a school. Goble is set to retire as the district’s director of transportation at the end of July.

This striking shot comes from First Student, which recently had 10 locations earn the ASE Blue Seal of Excellence. To achieve that designation, at least 75% of technicians at the location must be certified by ASE. Also, each area of service offered in the shop must be covered by at least one ASE-certified tech.

Overalls for all! At the retirement party for Christopher Hoover, mechanic supervisor at Carmel (Ind.) Clay Schools, office staff members joined him in wearing his garment of choice: overalls. Hoover worked for Carmel Clay Schools for 17 years. In that time, the fleet of 189 buses consistently passed inspections at 100%, according to the district.

At Waterford (Calif.) Unified School District, they love a parade. On May 14, the transportation department won first place in the local Heritage Day Parade, which was themed “Preservation of Education.”

“All our schools donated signs and made posters” for the parade, said Suzanne Bauer, Waterford’s director of transportation. “We had a great time!”
