LATHAM, N.Y. — The New York School Bus Contractors Association board recently voted to elect Robert “Bob” Pape as its new president.

Pape has served on the New York School Bus Contractors Association board of directors since 2007, and he has been a member of the association since 2005. Officials said he brings to the role more than 40 years of experience in pupil transportation.

Pape started his career with Hendrickson Bus Corp. and later served as director of transportation for Lawrence (N.Y.) Public Schools. He is currently partner and officer secretary with Dell Transportation in Port Washington, N.Y.

“I’m thrilled and honored to head the New York School Bus Contractors Association and to continue spreading the message on the benefits of private pupil transportation in New York,” Pape said. “Now, more than ever, it’s important for school districts and taxpayers to know that we are providing, and will continue to provide, the safest, most reliable and cost-effective pupil transportation services available today.

“Going forward we’d like to see a continued increase in school bus safety initiatives, more school districts utilizing private transportation services, and the elimination of the state and local sales tax on school buses in New York.”

Pape, a graduate of Rider University, also serves as the finance chair for the National School Transportation Association and is a past president of the National Association for Pupil Transportation. In addition, he has served as a school transportation and financial consultant to numerous local, state and national associations, along with school districts, private sector operations and governmental agencies.

“Providing a safe ride to school and back home for over a million children every day is the single most important thing we do as school bus contractors,” Pape added. “Our goal as an association has been, and will continue to be, to deliver the best pupil transportation services in the country.”
