Poll probes transportation workers' sleep issues

About one-fourth of train operators and pilots admit that sleepiness has affected their job performance at least once a week, according to the National Sleep Foundation. National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Deborah Hersman says that the new poll, which includes bus drivers, "should serve as a literal 'wake-up call.'"

Cindy Cain of First Canada is the 19th person to complete the program, and Kathleen Furneaux of the Pupil Transportation Safety Institute is the 20th. The association’s program has a curriculum that consists of six special-needs courses in a variety of settings, and it is supplemented by two courses of elective instruction from the NAPT Professional Development Series Program.
