District displays rusted bus, gets funding greenlight

Medina (Ohio) City School District officials parked one of the district’s buses outside Medina High School before a city school board meeting took place so board members and the public could see the corrosion that has rendered many of the district’s buses irreparable. The board approved funding for 15 new school buses and approved soliciting bids for the purchase of two additional school buses equipped to transport students with special needs.

District considers opt-out option due to nearly empty buses

Westfield (Mass.) Public School District may ask students who drive themselves to and from school to opt out of the free school transportation system, and let them opt back in later if their transportation needs change. Many of the district’s 47-passenger capacity school buses travel with fewer than a dozen riders on board.

District to fire driver who let son drive school bus

Theresa Robinson admitted to allowing her son to drive the school bus that was assigned to her. An investigation conducted by Hillsborough County (Fla.) Public Schools found that Robinson's son took the bus to be washed and detailed and that no children were on board at the time.

District uses school bus for program that feeds low-income students

The Manatee County (Fla.) School District’s school bus, which no longer runs in its fleet, is wrapped with brightly colored photos of the four food groups and delivers free lunches to more than 100 children each day. The food bus program runs through Aug. 8 and is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
