Blue Bird has unveiled its new battery pack, the Accelera BP97E, for use on its All-American and Vision electric school buses. The new pack will now come standard.
This new standard battery pack features higher energy density, a lighter weight design, and an advanced battery management system. It also has an increased usable capacity, improved DC fast charging capabilities, and improved thermal management systems.
Accelera BP97E Features
194 kWh battery capacity
150-mile range
DC fast-charging at 120kW, and a charge time of 2 hours
V2G-capabilities using improved security, charging, and communication
Blue Bird’s new, larger standard battery is designed to enhance performance and meet the demands of school bus customers, the company said. It is designed to help school districts desire for electric buses to cover more routes and accommodate some activity trips.
The more compact battery allows for a shorter wheelbase option on the Vision bus, increasing seating capacity and configuration options for customers. Designed and built in the U.S. by Accelera.
"As the leader in zero- and low-emission school buses, Blue Bird is excited to launch our new larger standard battery from Accelera," said Albert Burleigh, vice president of North America bus sales. "With enhancements in range, charge times, and efficiency, we are providing real-world improvements in performance and reliability to meet the increasing demands of customers transitioning their fleets to all-electric school buses."
