Pennsylvania district's bus drivers vote to remove union

After petitioning the National Labor Relations Board and getting free legal assistance, the school bus drivers are allowed to hold a secret-ballot election to determine whether to keep Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1729 as their bargaining representative. Nearly 90% of the drivers casting ballots vote to remove the union.

A group of school bus drivers in Oregon file a federal charge with the National Labor Relations Board, saying that a local union demanded that they join and pay full dues or face discharge. The settlement that the drivers win includes back pay.

Labor board finds NYC bus driver strike legal

The now two-week-old strike by unionized school bus drivers in New York is found to not violate the National Labor Relations Act. The strike began on Jan. 16, with the union calling for the continuation of job protections that Mayor Michael Bloomberg contends "the city is not legally allowed to provide."

Former contractor returns to industry as consultant

Terry Van Der Aa, past winner of SBF's Contractor of the Year award, sold his contracting company Vancom Inc. to Laidlaw in the late 1990s. He now will join TransPar Group to provide his expertise in the area of labor relations.
