Wash. governor proposes plan to fully fund school transportation

Outgoing Gov. Chris Gregoire proposes a wholesale excise tax on gasoline and diesel fuel that would increase gradually over the next three biennia to eventually fund the entire pupil transportation budget. Gov.-elect Jay Inslee says in a statement through his spokesman that he “will lay out his own budget priorities that reflect his vision for state government and his commitment to create a lasting economic recovery with secure jobs for Washington's middle class.”

Wash. lawmakers propose school transportation funding change

School bus services in the state would be paid for out of the transportation budget rather than the general fund to help legislators comply with a Supreme Court order to increase basic education funding for students. House Majority Leader Pat Sullivan says that any money for bus service would have to come out of revenue generated from a transportation funding package that lawmakers may put before voters next year.

District stuffs bus with food and supplies for the needy

A Washington district bus parked in front of a Walmart proves to be a big draw for donations. In last year’s Stuff the Bus event, the Lakewood School District transportation staff collected more than 4,000 pounds of food. This year, they said that the bus seemed to be filling even faster.

The district's transportation director downloads the app to his iPad, which allows him to access his entire perimeter cameras live from a single screen.

Durham wins Wash., Ore. contracts

The contractor will serve Newport (Wash.) School District and St. Helens Public Schools in Portland under five-year agreements that will begin in July for the upcoming school year. Durham will operate 78 routes for Newport and 28 routes for St. Helens.
